The Northern Illinois Energy Project (NIEP) is a partnership of Citizens Utility Board (CUB), an Illinois non-profit utility consumer watchdog group, the City of Chicago and Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. NIEP is developing innovative programs to promote energy conservation and reduce electricity costs for residential customers of ComEd.

NIEP is currently involved in three projects including:

Residential Lighting Program
Promoting the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs that save energy and utility costs.

Homeowners’ Energy Conservation Program
Helping homeowners incorporate energy efficient repairs in their home improvement projects.

Demand Response Program
NIEP, along with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) and Edison Mission Group, have launched a new “green building” pilot project to cut energy costs and reduce pollution. The program equips residential high-rise buildings with technology to control air conditioning usage during peak electricity demand.
