Lt. Governor Calls CUB
December 3, 2008—In honor of CUB’s upcoming 25th anniversary,
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn presented Illinois’ leading consumer group
with the
Hometown Hero Award.
‘A Model For The Whole Country’
“It’s important that we have someone on our side,” Quinn said. “CUB is always
there, fighting for the consumer.”
CUB opened its doors in 1984 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit group created by the Illinois Legislature to fight for the rights of utility consumers across the Land of Lincoln. Since then it has saved consumers more than $10 billion by blocking utility rate hikes and securing refunds. This year, CUB’s guidance helped consumers cut their annual telephone costs by as much as $500. Calling the organization “a model for the whole country,” Quinn presented CUB Executive Director David Kolata with the award. “It truly means a lot to us,” Kolata said. “The last 25 years are a testament to the power of people.” |
