CUB, DJ make power bills do 'electric slide'
February 8, 2010—Wedding DJ Sue Meloun read about CUB Energy Saver in the weekly e-newsletter she receives from the consumer group. But she never thought that the money-saving tool would some day spark an article about herself in CUB's weekly e-mail.
The 48-year-old Willowbrook resident won January's drawing for 50 free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs, which potentially could cut her power bills by up to $500 a year.
All CUB Energy Saver users are mailed a free CFL just for signing up for the service. But they're also eligible to win monthly drawings for 50 free bulbs. Even better, every quarter CUB will hold a drawing for a month of free electricity.
Those are just fringe benefits for using CUB Energy Saver, which helps consumers create a customized money-saving energy plan for their home. So far, Meloun and other CUB Energy Saver users have committed to energy-saving actions that will save them nearly $180,000 and cut carbon-dioxide pollution by more than 800 metric tons. Meloun said she loves CUB’s e-mails because they keep her informed, and help her contact elected officials about important consumer legislation. “They help me understand what’s in the news,” she said. Now, armed with personalized money-saving tips and a box full of CFLs, she has the tools she needs to slash her energy bills. So, while Meloun has probably played The Electric Slide more than a few times at past weddings, now she hopes it’ll be her electric bills that do the sliding. Help CUB continue to support CUB Energy Saver while we fight $1 billion worth of legal battles with the utilities, all in the name of protecting your bottom line. |
