He just won a $20 long-distance credit!
Feb. 12, 2010 Chicago—A lot of people love Pioneer Telephone's dirt-cheap domestic rates, but the long-distance company also has some nice international offers. Jeff Axelrod, the winner of a CUB drawing, now knows that, thanks to his wife and an island paradise.

Axelrod, an engineer from Glenview, wanted to keep in contact with his wife Cheryl, an obstetrician who recently traveled to the Caribbean vacation hotspot of Cozumel. She bought a 10-minute calling card for $9, which works out to a pretty lousy 90 cents-per-minute rate.

But Axelrod, a recent CUB member who knows Pioneer's great domestic rates, decided to check out how much the company would charge if he called his wife. He liked the answer: about 9 cents per minute. "Score CUB!" wrote Axelrod.

He was one of many happy customers to relay his Pioneer story to CUB. In our last e-newsletter, we asked people to tell us how much they were saving with Pioneer, one of the best long-distance deals in the nation, with rates under three cents per minute and an automatic, CUB-negotiated $20 credit. Everyone who responded was entered into the drawing that Axelrod won. Now, he gets another $20 credit!

"That's great!" Axelrod wrote. "I don't think I've ever won a contest before. It will probably more than cover the costs of the calling during her trip. Thanks CUB!"

For most Illinois consumers, Pioneer Telephone’s Rate Buster plan is 1.9 cents per minute for in-state calls (beyond 15 miles from your home), and 2.7 cents per minute for state-to-state calls. Then there's the $20 credit for all Illinois consumers.

Some of the other testimonials CUB received about Pioneer:

“I switched to Pioneer phone service in July 2009 for my long-distance and toll calls. I love it!!! I am still using my $20 credit. My phone bill (AT&T) is about $25 less a month...I have also referred one friend and have an additional $10 credit. I plan on referring more friends. I can't believe how much I have saved!! Thank you.” –Deborah, New Lenox

“We switched to Pioneer long distance in March 2009. As of our last billing statement, we still had a credit balance of $16.70. With our CUB credit and Pioneer's low rates, we have not paid for long distance in over a year!” –Nikki

“Switching from AT&T was the BEST fiscally responsible thing I've even done! Right off the bat I was saving the $10/month for the privilege of just having long distance service....Why on Earth would I give AT&T my hard-earned money—they're worth gagillions! Thanks to CUB and Pioneer, I stay in touch with those I love at a price I can afford.” –Cathleen
