$27 a month for directory assistance!?
CUB shows TV host how to save on 411
July 19, 2010 —CUB Executive Director David Kolata visited WCIU-TV's "You & Me This Morning" to help hosts Jeanne Sparrow and Melissa Forman save on phone service.

In the first segment, Kolata talked about the low-cost AT&T Consumer's Choice local-calling plans, which CUB designed to fit the needs, and the budget, of the average Illinois caller. So far, the plans have helped consumers save an average of nearly $200 a year. CUB and other consumer advocates successfully fought to have the plans' prices frozen through at least June of 2013 under the recently passed Illinois Telecommunications Act.

In the second segment, Kolata looked at co-host Forman's wireless bill, spotting $27 in charges for directory assistance calls, or 411. Dialing free directory assistance numbers, like 1-800-Info-Fast or 1-800-Free411, can save up to $2 per call.
