Big Savings!
Monday, January 3, 2011—Evanston had the most CUB Energy Saver members and saved the most electricity in 2010 to win thousands of bulbs in our community competition.
Evanston wins CUB Energy Saver competition But everyone was a winner with CUB Energy Saver, the free online service that allows individual homes to build personalized plans to reduce their energy usage. Consumers across Illinois cut their utility bills by a total of $114,091 and slashed electricity waste by 877,624 kilowatt-hours in 2010. Based on federal data that show Illinois homes used an average of 728 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month in 2009, that means CUB’s free online tool saved enough electricity to power the average Illinois home for 100 years. Nice job, everyone! In 2010, CUB launched a community competition to give up to 10,000 money-saving Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs to the community or neighborhood that registered the largest amount of energy saved and the largest number of members. Evanston topped the list in both competitions. Check out the top 10 for each competition. Most Energy Saved
