December 20, 2011, Rockford—Kirk Skorzak, of Rockford, has won $300 in free electricity through the
CUB Energy Saver service.
CUB Energy Saver was created by the Citizens Utility Board and New York City-based Efficiency 2.0. It recommends hundreds of tips to help families cut their electric and gas bills by an average of $130 per year.
To celebrate its one-year anniversary in June, CUB Energy Saver held a drawing for free electricity. Skorzak was among the 70 winners who received their prize money this month.
"It's great," Skorzak said, according to a press release. "I was totally surprised. I'm retired, so a little extra money along the way sure does come in handy."
"CUB Energy Saver helps customers cut their utility bills," Executive Director David Kolata said in the press release. "It gives them rewards for being energy efficient, and now it's given a Rockford resident the gift of free electricity this holiday season. It pays to be energy efficient."
Rockford has been one of the most energy-efficient communities in Illinois. Nearly 240 CUB Energy Saver members in Rockford have used the service to cut their electricity use by a combined 106,257 kilowatt-hours, saving nearly $11,858.
