CUB To Pass Out Money-Saving Light Bulbs At Logan Square Farmer's Market
CHICAGO, July 13, 2009—Fighting more than $1 billion in utility rate hikes, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will visit the Logan Square Farmer’s Market to pass out money-saving Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) and alert consumers about the latest energy-efficiency tips and incentives to help keep a lid on their utility bills.
“CUB has saved consumers more than $10 billion over our 25 years, so it’s part of our mission to show people how they can take a few simple steps to lower their own energy costs—and in the process help lower energy prices overall,” CUB Outreach Director Sarah Moskowitz said. “Energy efficiency is a great uncaptured resource.” CFLs use just a quarter of the energy of regular incandescent bulbs and each can save up to $50 over its lifetime. The event is:
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 26
Southeast corner of Logan Blvd. and Milwaukee Ave. Chicago The bulbs will be distributed one per adult while supplies last. CUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, CUB has saved consumers more than $10 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure consumer refunds.
