CHICAGO, July 15, 2009—Fighting more than $1 billion in utility rate hikes, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will visit the Orland Square Mall to pass out 3,000 money-saving Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) to help consumers keep a lid on their electric bills.

“CFLs are great for both your pocketbook and the planet,” said Rebecca Devens, CUB’s environmental programs coordinator. “Each CFL can save you up to $50 on your electric bill over the bulb’s lifetime, which could be as long as nine years!”

CFLs use just a quarter of the energy of regular incandescent bulbs and can last up to 10 times longer.

The event is:

Noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 25
Orland Square Mall, in front of Macy’s
288 Orland Square Dr.
Orland Park

The bulbs will be distributed one per adult until 4 p.m., or while supplies last.
