An Early Holiday Gift: CUB To Pass Out Free Weatherization Kits, Help Consumers Keep A Lid On Winter Energy Bills
CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2009—The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will hand out some holiday cheer in the form of 1,200 free weatherization kits that could save consumers hundreds of dollars and help them protect their homes and bank accounts from sky-high winter utility bills.
The kits will be distributed:
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4
Community Action Partnership of Lake County 1200 W. Glen Flora Ave. Waukegan
4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8
Park Place 414 S. Lewis Ave. Waukegan CUB will hand out the money-saving kits during the above-mentioned times, or while supplies last. “Plunging temperatures don’t have to spell disaster for our pocketbooks this winter,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata said. “These weatherization kits are sure to save consumers money.” The kits include four energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs), a window-insulating kit, and other materials for sealing off money-wasting gaps along windows, electrical outlets, and under doors. The bulbs alone could save consumers nearly $190 over their lifetime if installed in frequently-used sockets. Along with the kits, CUB will include publications that show customers how to make deep cuts in their local and long-distance phone service. Plus, CUB staffers will be at each location to answer questions about telephone, natural gas, and electric bills. CUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. It was created by the Illinois legislature in 1983 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, CUB has saved consumers more than $10 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure refunds. For more information, call CUB’s Consumer Hotline at 1-800-669-5556. |
