Fridge & Freezer Recycling
Don’t just throw away your old, working refrigerator or window air conditioner away. ComEd will pay residential customers $50 to pick up and responsibly dispose of up to two old refrigerators and freezers for FREE, and $10 for an old window air conditioner. (The EPA estimates that your old refrigerator alone can cost up to $150 a year to operate.)
To qualify for recycling, your refrigerators and/or freezer must be:
- Between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size.
- Empty, defrosted, and working at the time of pick-up
- Accessible with a clear path for removal by contractor
- Removable without risk of injury or modification of your home.
- Owned by you and located at the address with the qualifying ComEd account.
To recycle your appliance, schedule a pick-up at 855-433-2700 or visit www.comed.com/fridgerecycling.
NOTE: To receive a window air conditioner rebate, you must schedule pickup for a refrigerator or freezer.

Central AC Cycle
ComEd will give you $5 or $10 off your monthly electric bill between June and September for allowing the utility to remotely cycle your central air-conditioner off and on during the hottest days of the year.
Only the compressor gets cycled off. The fan will continue to circulate already cooled air, so you may not even notice a difference in your home. But such programs can make a big difference by reducing electricity demand on hot summer days to help prevent power outages, lower rates, and improve the environment.
You can choose between two cycling options:
50 percent
Time: Weekdays (excluding holidays), 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Unit cycles off: Maximum of 15 minutes every half hour (if needed).
You receive: $5 credit/month per household, June 1 through September 30. The total credit will be $20.
100 percent (if someone in your household is home during most of the day or has a medical condition this option is not recommended)
Time: Weekdays (excluding holidays), 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Unit cycles off: Up to one continuous 6-hour period.
You receive: $10 credit/month per household, June 1 through September 30. The total credit will be $40.
To participate in the program, call 1-800-986-0070 or enroll online at www.comed.com/accycling.
If you own a Nest Thermostat, you can participate in “Rush Hour Rewards,” a variation on ComEd’s AC Cycling program. Visit nest.com/energy-partners/comed/ for more information and to sign up.
