CUB’s money-saving events in November

It’s hard to believe it’s November already! As the year winds down, it’s time to make your final winter efficiency improvements and start planning your home energy upgrades for 2024. 

Below are free events CUB and partner organizations are holding this month.

12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1: UBC with State Rep. Kevin Schmidt

Rep. Schmidt and CUB are hosting a utility bill clinic at Freeburg Area Library (140 Cahokia Park Dr., Cahokia Heights, 62243). Each participant will get to review their phone, gas and electric bills one-on-one with CUB staff.

6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2: Utility Bill Clinic with State Rep. Mark Walker

State Rep. Mark Walker and CUB are hosting a utility bill clinic at Pioneer Park (500 S. Fernandez Ave., Arlington Heights, 60005). You can review your phone, gas and electric bills one-on-one with a CUB staffer. To RSVP, please contact Rep Walker’s office at 847-749-1137 or [email protected]

2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4: Utility Bill Clinic with CUB and Cook County

CUB and Kate Carney, community outreach coordinator for the Cook County Department of Environment & Sustainability, will be at Evanston Public Library Robert Crown Branch (1801 Main St., Evanston, 60202) to talk about ways to save money on your utility bills. Learn energy efficiency and weatherization tips to keep your home comfortable, and how to understand utility bills and special pricing programs.

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 6: Decarbonize Your Home With Smart Energy Choices

CUB will lead this event at Frankfurt Public Library (21119 S. Pfeiffer Rd., Frankfort, 60423), diving into ways renters and homeowners can access energy efficiency and cost-saving programs. RSVP here.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7: Utility Bill Clinic with Lemont Public Library

Join CUB at the Lemont Public Library (50 E. Wend St., Lemont, 60439) where a team of CUB’s trained staffers will meet with consumers one-on-one to go over their utility bills. Register here.

12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9: Navigating Solar Options with CUB

Join CUB at Congregational Church of Jefferson Park (5320 W Giddings St., Chicago, 60630) in Chicago for a presentation on solar power and the benefits of clean energy. Listen to a CUB expert explain different solar programs and incentives, why clean energy is more affordable and reliable, and how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act benefit consumers.

5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9: Portage Park Utility Bill Clinic with State Sen. Robert Martwick and State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe

CUB, CEDA, state Sen. Robert Martwick, and state Rep. Lindsey LaPointe are hosting a free utility bill clinic at Portage Park Senior Center (4001 N Long Ave., Chicago, 60641). Participants can sit down one-on-one with a CUB staffer to get guidance on reducing electric, gas, and both landline and cellphone bills. RSVP here.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9: Income-eligible Incentives for Energy Efficiency

Join CUB and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County at Woodstock Public Library (414 W Judd St., Woodstock, 60098) to learn about the incentives and benefits available for clean energy and energy efficiency, through CEJA and the Inflation Reduction Act.

10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13: Home Energy Savings Presentation

Join CUB, Dekalb Township, and state Sen. Sue Rezin for a presentation focusing on saving money, avoiding scams, and energy efficiency. This event will be virtual on Zoom: register here.

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13: Utility Bill Clinic at the William Leonard Public Library

CUB and Pathlights are hosting a free utility bill clinic at William Leonard Public Library (13820 Central Park Ave, Robbins, 60472) to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, and both landline and cellphone bills. 10:00 – 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14: Understanding Solar 

CUB is speaking at AARP’s online event about solar energy. This event will be broadcast live on CUB’s Facebook page

10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14: Home Energy Savings Presentation

CUB’s presentation at Carol Stream Public Library (616 Hiawatha Dr., Carol Stream, 60188) will show you how to decode your bills, spot errors, and take advantage of helpful programs designed to save energy and money. Please register here

7:00 – 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15: The Tri-Cities’ Coal Problem and What We Can Do About It

Join CUB, the League of Women Voters, Sierra Club Illinois and others for a conversation about how Tri-Cities residents can work to secure cleaner and more affordable power. The discussion will be at the Baker Community Center in St. Charles (8 North Ave., St. Charles, 60174). Please register here.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 27: Income-eligible Incentives for Energy Efficiency

Join CUB and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County at the McHenry Township Office (3703 N. Richmond Rd., Johnsburg, 60051) to learn about the incentives and benefits available for clean energy and energy efficiency, through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
