CUB’s money-saving events in May

The weather is heating up and that means CUB has a jam-packed schedule of events to help you save on your utility bills. Below you will find several events that can help you improve energy efficiency at home and protect your bottom line. We hope to see you there.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2: Navigating Utility Bills with CUB

CUB and Matteson Public Library (801 School Ave., Matteson, IL 60443) are hosting an in-person presentation focused on helping residents understand the charges on their gas and electric bills. Register here. (This is one of two events taking place at this library.  See below for more.)

8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 5: Open the Y

CUB will have a table at Open the Y, a free community event in Glen Ellyn celebrating older adults and showcasing community resources. Stop by our table at the B. R. Ryall YMCA (49 Deicke Dr., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137) for helpful tips and information on energy efficiency

10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11: Senior Resource Fairs

CUB will have a table at two different senior fairs with information on energy efficiency and how to cut your utility bills. One fair will take place at the Southwest Senior Center (6117 S. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL 60639). We will also be at North Riverside Parks and Recreation (2401 S Des Plaines Ave, North Riverside, IL 60546). We hope you can join us at one of the fairs!

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13: Aurora Greenfest 

Join CUB at the 11th Aurora Greenfest, the first since 2019! We will give a short presentation on the services CUB offers and important topics like energy efficiency. This event will take place at the Prisco Community Center (150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora, IL 60506).

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18: Navigating Utility Bills with CUB

CUB and Troy Township (25448 W. Seil Rd, Shorewood, IL 60404) are hosting an in-person presentation focused on helping residents understand the charges on their gas and electric bills. Please register by contacting Angela at [email protected] or 815-744-1963.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 18: Community Solar with Laudato Si’ Ministries

Are you interested in going solar? Join CUB and Laudato Si’ Ministries of the Diocese of Joliet for a virtual presentation to learn about the benefits of community solarand consumer tips to know before diving in. Register here.

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

Join CUB at Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Hall, where community resources and city departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. CUB will have a table providing information on energy efficiency and your options in the gas and electric markets. This event will take place at Calumet Park (9801 S Ave. G, Chicago, IL 60617).

CUB and Matteson Public Library (801 School Ave., Matteson, IL 6044) are hosting an in-person presentation focused on helping residents understand the charges on their gas and electric bills. Register here.

11:00  a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20: Solar for All in Rockford

Join CUB and Sierra Club for a presentation on Solar for All, Illinois’ income-eligible solar program that allows homeowners, renters, and nonprofits to take advantage of the benefits of solar power, either by subscribing to a community solar farm, or, for homeowners, installing panels directly on their property. This event will take place at the RPL Nordlof Center (118 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61101). Register here. 

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23: Grow Geo Skokie

Join CUB at the Skokie Public Library (5215 Oakton St, Skokie, IL 60077) for an informative session on geothermal heat pumps. We’ll cover the design and installation of geothermal heat pumps, including how they operate, system costs, environmental benefits and savings. This event will be co-hosted by the Skokie Sustainable Environment Advisory Commission, the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois and Midwest Renewable Energy Association. Register here.

Join CUB at another Mobile City Hall at Shabbona Park (6935 W. Addison St., Chicago, IL 60634).

10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 31: Home Energy Savings with Rep. Hoffman

CUB and state Rep. Jay Hoffman are hosting a virtual webinar on how to decode your utility bills and tips on saving money and energy. Bring all your utility-related questions! Register here.
