CUB’s money-saving events in August

We’re nearing the end of summer, but there’s still plenty of time to learn how to save on your cooling bills. 

Below are several CUB events this month that can help you improve energy efficiency at home and protect your bottom line. We hope to see you!

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3: Solar Power Hour
Join CUB and Kane County for a Solar Power Hour at the Kane County Division of Environmental & Water Resources Building A (719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL 60134). Residents throughout Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake and Will counties have an opportunity to participate in Solar Switch Chicagoland, a program combining volume purchasing with community education to make solar more accessible and affordable. Regardless of where you live in the counties, you can participate in any of the free informational Solar Power Hours. You’ll learn about the basics of solar, its financial benefits for a household, and how the solar group-buy program works.

1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9: Utility Bill Clinic
CUB is hosting a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. This event will take place at the Warrenville Public Library (28W751 Stafford Pl., Warrenville, IL 60555). Register here.

7:00 – 800 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10: Solar Power Hour
This Solar Power Hour will take place at Wilmette Public Library (1242 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette, IL 60091). Read more about Solar Switch Chicagoland.

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12: Community Solar Presentation
Join CUB and the Local Environmental Study Group for a 20-minute presentation on Illinois’ Community Solar program. Learn how you can save money on your electric bill without needing solar panels on your property. (You can save between 20 percent to 50 percent on your electric bill, depending on your income.)

We will answer your questions about community solar and give you an opportunity to sign up with a community solar provider. If you might be interested in signing up, please bring a copy of your most recent ComEd bill. This event will take place at the Freeport Public Library (100 E. Douglas St., Freeport, IL 61032). 

7:00 – 800 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14: Solar Power Hour
This Power Hour will take place at Northbrook Public Library (1201 Cedar Ln., Northbrook, IL 60062).  Read more about the Solar Switch Chicagoland program.

10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15: Chicago Mobile City Hall
Join CUB at Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Hall, where community resources and City departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. CUB will have a table providing information on energy efficiency and your options in the gas and electric markets. This event will take place at Hamilton Park (513 W. 72nd St., Chicago, IL 60621).

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15: Solar Power Hour
This Power Hour will take place at the School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) building (800 S. Rohlwing Rd., Addison, IL 60101). This event is co-hosted by SCARCE and DuPage County. We’re grateful for their support of our program. Read more about Solar Switch Chicagoland.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17: Home Decarb 101
Join CUB and Oak Park Public Library–Maze Branch (845 Gunderson Ave., Oak Park, IL 60304) for a home-decarbonization event diving into ways renters and homeowners can access energy efficiency and cost-saving programs. Topics include the benefits of building electrification, new tax credits and rebates for home energy improvements available through the Inflation Reduction Act and money-saving appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves. 

5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22: Utility Bill Clinic with State Rep. Jenn Ladisch Douglass
CUB is hosting a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. This event will take place at state Rep. Ladisch Douglass’ district office (1 S. Cass Ave. Westmont Centre Suite 103-104, Westmont, IL 60559). Register here.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23: Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls
Join CUB for a free presentation on your TV options and reducing robocalls. During this event, a CUB representative will discuss ways to cut your cable costs and the different choices in the TV market. This event will take place at the Warren-Newport Public Library (224 O’Plaine Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031). Register here.

10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24: Chicago Mobile City Hall
This event will take place at Gage Park (2411 W. 55th St., Chicago, IL 60632).  Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Halls are where community resources and City departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. CUB will have a table providing information on energy efficiency and your options in the gas and electric markets.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24: Solar Power Hour
