CUB’s money-saving events in September

As we approach the winter heating season, CUB is here to help you get ready to save on your utility bills.

Below are several events in September that can help you improve energy efficiency at home and protect your bottom line. We hope to see you!

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

Join CUB at Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Hall, where community resources and City departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. CUB will have a table providing information on energy efficiency and your options in the gas and electric markets. This event will take place at Harrison Park (1824 S. Wood St., Chicago, IL 60608).

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9: Morton Grove Sustainability Expo

CUB will have a table at the Morton Grove Sustainability Expo with resources on energy efficiency, solar power and more tips on how you can cut your utility bills. There will also be other organizations with services and opportunities to help you live more sustainably. This event will take place at the Morton Grove Civic Center (6140 Dempster St., Morton Grove, IL 60053).   

7:00 – 800 p.m., Monday, Sept. 11: Solar Power Hour

Thinking about going solar? Join CUB and the village of Northbrook for a Solar Power Hour at the Northbrook Public Library (1201 Cedar Ln, Northbrook, IL 60062). Residents throughout Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake and Will counties have an opportunity to participate in Solar Switch Chicagoland, a program combining volume purchasing with community education to make solar more accessible and affordable. Regardless of where you live in the counties, you can participate in any of the free informational Solar Power Hours. You’ll learn about the basics of solar, its financial benefits for a household, and how the solar group-buy program works.

10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

This event will take place at Lake Shore Park (808 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago, IL 60611). Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Halls are where community resources and City departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12: Understanding Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls

CUB and Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea are teaming up to provide a free virtual presentation on your TV options and reducing robocalls. During this event, a CUB representative will discuss ways to cut your cable costs and the different choices in the TV market. Register for the Zoom meeting here. 

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13: Home Energy Savings 

CUB will show you how to decode your gas and electric bills, spot errors, and take advantage of programs designed to save energy and money. This event will take place at the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library (240 Whitson St., Manhattan, IL 60442). 

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14: Home Energy Savings 

If you’re unable to attend the Sept. 13 in-person event, we’ll cover the same tips on decoding your utility bills in this virtual session. Register for the Zoom meeting here. 

10:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15: Home Energy Savings 

This event will take place at the Niles Senior Center (999 Civic Center Dr., Niles, IL 60714). CUB will show you how to decode your gas and electric bills, spot errors, and take advantage of programs designed to save energy and money. Registration is not required.

4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20: Utility Bill Clinic 

CUB is hosting a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. Both English and Spanish services will be offered. This event will take place at the Warren-Newport Public Library (224 O’Plaine Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031). Register here.

10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21: Utility Bill Clinic with State Rep. Kevin Schmidt

Join CUB and state Rep. Schmidt for a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. This event will take place at the Freeburg Area Library District (407 S. Belleville St., Freeburg, IL 62243). 10:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21: Utility Savings with CUB

Learn about consumer protections, how to decode your gas/electric bills and the latest Illinois policies and how they will impact you at this informative presentation. This event will take place at the Wauconda Township office (505 W. Bonner Rd., Wauconda, IL 60084).

6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25: Navigating Community Solar

Join CUB’s solar expert for a presentation covering the different solar programs available, why clean energy is affordable and reliable and an overview of how policies like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act benefit Illinois consumers. This event will take place at the Gail Borden Public Library (270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, IL 60120). 

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25: Cutting Your Cable Bill

CUB and the Brookfield Public Library (3541 Park Ave., Brookfield, IL 60513) are partnering to provide a free event focused on ways you can save money on your TV entertainment costs. We’ll cover the different options in the TV market, including streaming services available. 

10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27: Utility Bill Clinic with State Rep. Amy Elik

Join CUB and state Rep. Elik for a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. This event will take place at Senior Services Plus (2603 N. Rodgers Ave., Alton, IL 62002). 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27: Important Transitions for Cleaner Air in Your Home and Community

Join CUB and other members of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition for a first-of-its kind event to discuss how “electrification” home improvements will help people lower their energy costs, protect their health and reduce their carbon footprint. This event will take place at the Carbondale Civic Center (200 S. Illinois Ave, Carbondale IL, 62901). Refreshments will be served. Register here. 

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27: CUB’s Guide to Going Solar

Learn if solar is right for you and your home at this free event at the Frankfort Public Library (21119 S. Pfeiffer Rd., Frankfort, IL 60423). This presentation will go over why now is the best time to go solar, an overview of state and federal incentives, how solar panels work and deciding whether to purchase or lease solar panels. Learn about consumer protections, how to decode your gas/electric bills and the latest Illinois policies and how they will impact you at this informative presentation. You’ll also hear from the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability. This event will take place at the Prairie Trails Public Library (8449 Moody Ave., Burbank, IL 60459).
