CUB’s money-saving events in June

This month we have a jam-packed schedule of free, money-saving events. With the weather getting warmer, this is the perfect time to get up to speed on energy efficiency and more clean energy opportunities. We hope to see you at one of the events below!

1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 5: Utility Bill Clinic with Lake Villa District Library

CUB is hosting a free in-person event to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline and cellphone bills. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to review their bills. This event is at the Lake Villa District Library (140 N. Munn Rd., Lindenhurst, IL 60046) and is the first of two clinics this month. Appointments are encouraged, but not required. Register here.

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 5: Grow Geo Power Hour

Want to learn about geothermal heat pumps–a cheaper, cleaner way to heat your home? During this online presentation, you will learn how they work, how they are designed and installed, system costs, savings, benefits and incentives (including environmental ones). Register for the zoom session here.

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

Join CUB at Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s Mobile City Hall, where community resources and City departments are brought directly to residents who are unable to commute downtown. CUB will have a table providing information on energy efficiency and your options in the gas and electric markets. This event will take place at Loyola Park (1230 W. Greenleaf Ave., Chicago, IL 60626).

1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6: Home Energy Savings 

As we head into a hot summer, consumers need to be well-informed on ways to save and lower their utility costs. In this lecture, CUB will show you how to decode your bills, spot errors, and take advantage of real programs designed to save energy and money. This event will take place at the Warren-Newport Public Library (224 O’Plaine Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031). Register here.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 8: Solar for All with Commissioner Donna Miller 

Join CUB and Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller for a presentation on Solar for All, Illinois’ income-eligible solar program that allows homeowners, renters and nonprofits to take advantage of the benefits of solar power, either by subscribing to a community solar farm, or, for homeowners, installing panels directly on their property. This event will take place at South Suburban College (15800 State St., South Holland, IL 60473).

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

This event will take place at Ping Tom Memorial Park (1700 S Wentworth Ave, Chicago, IL 60616). 

12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 10: Schaumburg Environmental Fair

CUB will have a table at the Schaumburg Environmental Fair with helpful tips and information on energy efficiency. This event will take place at the Spring Valley Nature Center (1111 E. Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60194). 

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

This event will take place at Piotrowski Park (4247 W. 31st St., Chicago, IL 60623). 

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13: Home Energy Savings 

Join CUB and Elmhurst Public Library (125 S. Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, IL 60126) for a free presentation on energy savings. Learn about consumer protections, how Illinois energy policy impacts you and how to decode your gas and electric bills. This is a hybrid event with virtual and in-person options. 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

This event will take place at Oriole Park (5430 N. Olcott Ave., Chicago, IL 60656). 

1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 20: Home Energy Savings 

Join CUB and Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea for a free virtual presentation on energy savings. Get the latest on Illinois energy policy and learn about consumer protections and how to decode your gas and electric bills. Register here. 

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 20: Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls 

Join CUB and the Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library (11960 S. Pulaski Rd., Alsip, IL 60803) for an in-person presentation on your TV options and reducing robocalls. A CUB representative will discuss ways to cut your cable costs and the different choices in the TV market.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 22: Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls 

Join CUB and Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea for a free virtual presentation on your TV options and reducing robocalls. During this event, a CUB representative will discuss ways to cut your cable costs and the different choices in the TV market. Register here. 

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24: Chicago Mobile City Hall 

This event will take place at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (3857 W. 111th St., Chicago, IL 60655).

1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27: Renewable Energy News You Can Use

Join CUB and the Northbrook Park District for a presentation on solar and the benefits of clean energy. Listen to a CUB expert explain different solar programs and incentives you can get involved in and how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act benefit consumers. This event will take place at the Senior Center (3323 Walters Ave., Northbrook, IL 60062).

7:30 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 27: Chicago Community Town Hall

Join CUB and Chicago Ald. Anthony Beale for a presentation on the services that CUB offers to Illinois residents. Learn how to improve your energy efficiency and cut down on your utility bills. This event will take place at the 9th Ward Aldermanic Office (34 E. 112th Pl., Chicago, IL 60628).

6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28: Utility Bill Clinic with Lake Villa District Library

This is the second Utility Bill Clinic taking place at the Lake Villa District Library (140 N. Munn Rd., Lindenhurst, IL 60046). Appointments are encouraged, but not required. Register here.
