CUB’s money-saving events in May

Summer is on its way, and the CUB team has a full month of free events planned to help you prepare for air-conditioning season.

Check out the May events we have planned to show you how to protect your bottom line, educate you on the benefits of clean energy and help you cut your utility bills. We hope to see you there!

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 2: Our Future Home: Clean and Affordable Heat and Cooking
Join CUB and Sierra Club Illinois at the Freeport Public Library (100 E. Douglas St., Freeport, IL 61032) for a discussion on how making the switch to electric appliances can reduce your carbon footprint, lower energy costs, and protect your health. This event is also co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Freeport and the Environmental Study Group. Please register here for this in-person event. 

2:00 – 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 6: Your Energy Smart Home: Decarbonization 101
Join CUB at the Warrenville Public Library (28W751 Stafford Place, Warrenville, Illinois, 60555) to learn how to save money, make your home more comfortable, and reduce your carbon footprint. A CUB representative will alert you to free programs designed to save you energy and money, outline how to take advantage of solar power and discuss the benefits of all-electric homes. Please register here for this in-person event. 

5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7: Home Decarbonization 101
Join CUB and the Village of Park Forest at the Park Forest Public Library (400 Lakewood Blvd., Park Forest, IL, 60466) for a presentation on ways to start “decarbonizing”–finding cheaper and cleaner ways to heat and power your home. Learn about the benefits of all-electric homes, efficient appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves, and new tax credits and rebates available through historic federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7: Home Decarbonization 101 (online event)
Join CUB, Laudato Si’ Ministries of the Diocese of Joliet, and St. Francis of Assisi to learn how you can start to “decarbonize” your home (find cheaper, cleaner ways to heat and power it).   Learn about the benefits of all-electric homes, efficient appliances such as heat pumps and induction stoves, and new tax credits and rebates available through historic federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act.  Please register here for this online event. 

5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14: Utility Bill Clinic with the Oak Park Public Library
CUB will be at the Oak Park Public Library (834 Lake St., Oak Park, IL, 60301) to advise residents on reducing electric, gas, landline, cable and cellphone bills. Bring current copies of your bills and you will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor who can review your bills, answer your questions and give you money-saving tips. Please register here for this in-person event. 

6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 16: Illinois’ Clean Energy Future: Heat, Power & Transportation  
Join CUB, Sierra Club Illinois and the Sinnissippi Audubon Society at the Rockford Public Library’s Nordlof Center (Rehearsal Room, 118 N. Main St., Rockford, IL, 61101) for a discussion about the 2024 legislative platform of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, of which CUB and Sierra Club are members. Please register here for this in-person event.

6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21: Home Energy Savings with CUB
Join CUB at the Soundgrowler Brewing Co. (8201 183rd St., Suite P, Tinley Park, IL, 60487) for a presentation on how to lower your home energy costs. Get a better understanding of your utility bills, find out about free programs to help cut your monthly costs and learn about the choices you have for heating and powering your home. This article will be updated with a registration link when it is available.

7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22: Navigating Solar with CUB
Join CUB at the Bellwood Public Library (600 Bohland Ave., Bellwood, IL, 60104) for a presentation on solar and the benefits of clean energy. Listen to a CUB expert explain how you can take advantage of different solar programs and incentives and how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act benefit consumers. 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23: Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls (online event)
Join CUB and the Villa Park Public Library for this online presentation on ways to cut your TV costs and reduce annoying robocalls. A CUB representative will discuss your choices in the TV market, give you money-saving tips and tell you how to protect yourself from robocall scams. Please register for this online event here.

Join CUB at the Lansing Public Library (2750 Indiana Ave., Lansing, IL, 60438) for a presentation on solar and the benefits of clean energy.
