Here’s why we need your help fighting Peoples Gas: Check out the latest numbers on your gas utility’s spending spree.
- Crain’s Chicago Business reports that capital spending at Peoples (and its smaller sister company) is “set to explode” to $3 billion over the next five years.
- In one year, Peoples Gas collected $62 million in surcharges to pay for its mismanaged pipe-replacement program—quadruple what it raked in from you just a few years ago.
“The only interpretation is they’re trying to spend as much as they can as fast as they can,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata told Crain’s.
The pipeline program could double your gas bills in years to come, but the General Assembly could fix this mess. That’s why CUB’s Bryan McDaniel, director of governmental affairs, is in Springfield fighting for a bill to rein in the company’s spending and stop a growing crisis in Chicago.
Please urge your legislators to fix the Peoples Gas pipe-replacement program.
