CUB’s money-saving events in September

As we head into fall, CUB’s Outreach team will be busy staffing free events to help Illinois consumers learn how to reduce their utility bills and protect themselves from scams. We hope to see you at one of these September events.

6:30 p.m. –  7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, Understanding Cable Options and Reducing Robocalls (online event)
Join CUB and Bolingbrook’s Fountaindale Public Library for a free webinar about cable options and reducing robocalls. A CUB representative will discuss choices in the TV market, ways to cut cable costs, streaming services available to consumers and how to avoid common robocall scams. 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, Senior Fair in Carpentersville (in-person event)
CUB will be at the East Dundee Township Park District (665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville, IL., 60110) for a Senior Health Fair hosted by state Sent. Dan McConchie and state Sen. Don DeWitte. We’ll share tips and tricks on how to be more energy efficient at home–including how the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) can benefit consumers. Please register for this free event here.

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, Prospect Heights Utility Bill Clinic (in-person event)
Join CUB at the Prospect Heights Public Library (12 N. Elm Street, Prospect Heights, IL, 60070) for a free Utility Bill Clinic. Bring current copies of electric, gas, cable and landline/cellphone bills and speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor who can review them, answer questions and give money-saving tips. 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, Champaign Event: Better Buildings, Healthier Illinois: Community Conversations on Climate (in-person event)
Join CUB, Prairie Rivers NetworkFaith in Place and Sierra Club at University Place Christian Church (403 S. Wright St., Champaign, IL., 61820) to discuss the proposed Clean and Healthy Buildings Act. The act aims to reduce hazardous emissions in our homes and lower energy costs by requiring gas utilities to achieve zero emissions by 2050, updating energy efficiency standards and preventing wasteful spending on the gas system. 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, Home Energy Savings with CUB (in-person event)
Join CUB at the Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library (54 East 31st Street, Steger, IL., 60475) to learn about energy choices and ways to save money on utility bills. This free event is designed to help people better understand utility bills, avoid scams and learn about energy efficiency and solar programs that can help people save money and energy. Join CUB,  Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea, state Sen. Bill Cunningham and state Rep. Mary Gill to learn about energy choices and ways to save money on utility bills. This free Zoom webinar is designed to help participants better understand utility bills, avoid scams and learn about energy efficiency and solar programs that can help save money and energy. 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, Fall Nature Fest in Chicago’s LaBagh Woods (in-person event)
CUB will be at Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen’s fifth annual Fall Nature Fest in LaBagh Woods (on Chicago’s northwest side, by West Foster Avenue and N. Cicero Ave, Chicago, IL., 60630). We’ll share helpful information on how to make your home more energy efficient through no- or low-cost programs and incentives available. Please RSVP here.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, Senior Fair in St. Charles (in-person event)
CUB will be at a Senior Fair hosted by state Sen. Don DeWitte at the St. Charles Park District’s Pottawatomie Community Center (8 North Avenue Street, St. Charles, IL., 60174). We’ll share energy-efficiency tips to help people save money on their utility bills. There are many no- or low-cost programs and incentives available, including through the federal Inflation Reduction Act. Please register for this event here. 

6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19: Navigating Solar Options with CUB (hybrid online/in-person event)
Join CUB at the Aurora Public Library (555 S. Eola Road, Aurora, IL., 60504) to learn how to take advantage of different solar programs and incentives, and how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act benefit consumers. 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, Utility Bill Clinic with Blacks in Green (in-person)
