Spring is in the air: CUB’s money-saving events in March

CUB’s Outreach team travels across the state to staff free events, giving consumers energy efficiency tips for their home, educating them on how clean energy can cut their utility bills and helping people protect themselves from scams and rip-offs. 

As the winter snow begins to thaw, people are starting to think about how they can make their homes more energy efficient for the summer. We hope to see you at one of these events!

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, Dupo Utility Bill Clinic (in-person) 
Join CUB and state Rep. Kevin Schmidt at the Daugherty Public Library (220 S. 5th St., Dupo, IL 62239) for a free event on how to reduce your utility bills and tap into money-saving, clean energy programs. Each participant will speak one-on-one with a CUB counselor to receive a personalized analysis of their bills. Please RSVP in advance by calling 618-215-1050 or email [email protected].

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, International Women’s Day tabling event/Día Internacional De La Mujer (in-person)
Visit CUB’s table at this event sponsored by the women’s group, Latinas in Action (2124 W. 21 Place St, Chicago, IL 60608). CUB’s table will have money-saving tips about your utility bills.

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, Mobile DMV / DMV Móvil (in-person) 
Please join CUB and state Rep. Will Guzzardi at Kosciuszko Park (2732 N. Avers Ave, Chicago, IL 60647) for a Mobile DMV event. CUB’s table will have money-saving tips about your utility bills. Also, representatives from the Illinois Tollway and the Illinois Visit CUB’s table to get money-saving utility tips. State Treasurer’s Office will be on-site to assist with I-PASS registration and the I-Cash unclaimed property program. You can also meet with CEDA to explore LIHEAP utility assistance resources and visit Chicago Votes to get registered to vote. No appointments are needed for these additional services! For Mobile DMV services, appointments are required. Please register in advance here.

“What should I do?” is the most common question from those who want to protect our planet from environmental harm. Visit the Earth Awareness Fair at the Frankfort Public Library (21119 S. Pfeiffer Rd., Frankfort, IL 60423) to discover how you can lend your skills and passion to support local organizations dedicated to promoting a healthy environment for all of Earth’s inhabitants. CUB’s table will have money-saving, clean energy tips. 

6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, Waukegan Home Energy Savings / Ahorrando en las facturas de servicios públicos (in-person)
If you believe your utility bills are too high or simply want to learn about money-saving opportunities, then this workshop is for you! Join CUB and Clean Power Lake County (415 Washington St. 009, Waukegan, IL 60085) to learn about ways to save money on your utility bills.
During this presentation we will cover the following topics: understanding your utility bills, your energy choices, energy efficiency programs that can help consumers save energy and money, and solar options. Join CUB and the La Grange Environmental Quality Commission at the La Grange Village Hall (53 South La Grange Road, La Grange, IL 60525) for a presentation on solar and the benefits of clean energy. Listen to a CUB expert explain different solar programs and why clean energy is more affordable and reliable. Also, learn how policies like the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) benefit consumers.

7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, Rising Utility Costs in Illinois (in-person)
Learn why your energy bills are increasing and what you can do about it! Join CUB at Cafe Mustache (2313 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647) for a discussion on how data centers are driving up our energy costs. Get money-saving tips and information on programs that can help reduce your utility bills, and learn how you can advocate for cleaner, more affordable energy. Please register in advance here.
