CUB thanks Gov. Pritzker for pausing new tax incentives for data centers in Illinois

The following is a statement from Citizens Utility Board (CUB) Executive Director Sarah Moskowitz on Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s announcement today that he is pausing new data center tax incentives.

We thank Gov. Pritzker for taking action today by pausing tax incentives for data centers while continuing the critical discussion on how to hold Big Tech accountable for their energy costs. Millions of Illinoisans are paying higher electricity bills because data centers are not paying their fair share—and it will only get worse unless we take decisive action. The message from Illinois consumers and the governor is clear: It is time for Illinois to stand up to Big Tech. We urge the General Assembly to take this opportunity to pass the POWER Act, nation-leading, commonsense guardrails for data centers.

-Sarah Moskowitz, CUB Executive Director

Please urge your legislators to support the POWER Act!

For more than 40 years the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) has been Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog group. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, CUB has saved consumers more than $20 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure refunds.
