If you’ve ever called CUB, there’s a good chance you’ve spoken to Jantay Gray, the woman who often answers our Consumer Hotline (1-800-669-5556). Jan is one of many outstanding consumer advocates on staff.
This year, Sandra Marcelin-Reme, CUB’s director of consumer advocacy, sent the staff an email that exclaimed “WAY TO GO, JAN!” Jan had just secured a refund for a customer, William, who had been on a bad natural gas deal with Direct Energy since 2013. We’ll skip all the boring stuff and get to the best part of the letter Sandra received: “Direct Energy agrees to pay the total sum of $4,840.06 for gas billing periods by check payable to William…”
Jan showed the usual humility: “Whether it is securing refunds or establishing customer protections, it’s a privilege to take part in fighting the good fight.”
